LA-based rock band Thirty Seconds To Mars is currently on tour in support of their fourth studio album, LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS, which was released in May. The band, made up of brothers Jared and Shannon Leto and Tomo Miličević, recently performed at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas in September, where they wowed the crowd with an unexpected cover of Rihanna's hit with Mikky Ekko, "Stay."
Thirty Seconds To Mars teamed up with iHeartRadio to Guest DJ a radio station that's perfect for them. In addition to their own work, the station includes music from such iconic bands as U2 and Depeche Mode as well as bona fide pop stars liek Rihanna and up-and-comers like Lorde. Check out the band's top ten tracks, accompanied by Jared Leto's explanation of why they were chosen, below.
1. U2, “With Or Without You.”
"Let’s start with a big one," Jared tells iHeartRadio. "What do you say about that song except it’s a classic, it’s beautiful, it’s big, it’s bombastic... but it’s also so brilliant. Wonderful song, very meaningful. Very touching. Bono and the boys really delivered, obviously a classic here."
2. Nine Inch Nails, “Closer.”
"A song that I probably will play when I walk down the aisle. A song that’s really touching and meaningful, and if you run out of Viagra and Red Bull, put on 'Closer' from Nine Inch Nails. It’s a great one, I love it, a personal favorite."
3. “Personal Jesus” by Depeche Mode.
"A really wonderful song, a great band. We played a show with them not too long ago... that was interesting to play with the legends themselves. Enjoy."
4. Cyndi Lauper “Time After Time.”
"The next song is a tear jerker, so grab a hanky, put your underwear back on. 'If you fall I will catch you and oh I’ll be waiting, Time after time. Time after time.' Don’t pretend you don’t love it... you do, you do. You do, I'm forcing you, you do. It’s hypnosis. Cyndi Lauper, 'Time After Time.'"
5. Prince “When Doves Cry.”
"What prom would be complete without it? I don’t know. I never went to the prom, I was on the streets smoking crack. You’re under the bleachers, you know you’re doing all kinds of things for the first time and... you have a good time. Whatever happens, happens and it’s a blast."
6. Lorde “Royals."
"The next song and appropriately, Lorde, who's young enough to be hanging out under the bleachers and a very big talent as well. Great song, I saw her play not too long ago in Los Angeles, she was wonderful."
7. Rihanna, “Stay.”
"The Queen herself, not only beautiful, but talented as well and an amazing voice. A great song - bit of a tear jerker - and an interesting little duet."

8. Thirty Seconds To Mars, “City Of Angels.”
"A love letter to that bizarre town, Los Angeles. That town that we went to and made our dreams come true. It’s a really personal song - probably the most personal song that we’ve ever had - and we just shot a video for it, we are editing it now, it will be out very very soon."

9. Boston, “More Than A Feeling.”
"If you ever have the blues, this is a song that will lift you up out of the deep, dark ghetto of sadness and make you feel like a $2 bill."
10. Kanye, “Blood On The Leaves.”
"We picked this song 'cause we presented Kanye at the MTV awards - where we actually won Best Rock Video. Just throwing that out there, humble brag. So that was a great night, and we thought that he gave a clever, interesting, inspiring performance."
Last words from Jared:
"Goodnight kids, be safe, put that shoe horn away, heat that can of tuna and remember if your touchin’ it, be gentle, you can hurt yourself."
